Windows 11 update: you can get the download right away, and here’s how


Windows 11 is here and it’s free to download for Windows 10 users.


Windows 11 started rollout earlier this month when Microsoft launched its new Eligible Device Operating System Oct 5. Anyone with Windows 10 can upgrade for free if they have a compatible computer but a lot of people are still waiting for the opportunity.

Microsoft is rolling out the operating system in phases so your system may not prompt you to upgrade just yet – in fact, you may not find it even if you tell your computer to check for updates. An August blog post by Microsoft said the company expects “all eligible devices to get the free upgrade to Windows 11 by mid-2022″. Don’t you want to wait until next year? If you’re in no hurry, the Windows 11 update will roll over to your device sometime in the coming months when Microsoft’s data indicates that the upgrade is ready for that device. When the new operating system is available to you, the upgrade process is similar to a normal Windows 10 update, as long as your device is compatible and meets the minimum requirements necessary. (And even if not, Microsoft will offer a workaround, but in this case your Windows 11 installation is not supported by the company.)

Windows 11 installation wizard: How to download Windows 11 without waiting


Some users can download Windows 11 the same way that you would get any new version of Windows. Just go to Settings> Update & Security> Windows Update and click Check for updates. If available, see Function update to Windows 11. click Download and install.

Again, note that the Windows 11 adoption will be slow – it can take months before it is available on your device. New PCs get the upgrade first, and all compatible devices are expected to get it by mid-2022, depending on device age and hardware.

If the upgrade is not yet available to you, but you want to upgrade now, you have several options. The best and easiest option is to download the Installation wizard for Windows 11. Choose Run after downloading to make sure your hardware is compatible. then Accept and install to agree to the license terms and begin the installation. When the program has finished installing, you will be prompted to restart your computer. Your PC might restart multiple times during the installation process, so don’t be alarmed. Just leave your PC on until everything is done.

If you can’t use Windows 11’s installation wizard, you have a few backup options, but be warned that these are more complicated. We strongly recommend that you wait for the update to become available on your device. If you’re sure you want to continue, you can create Windows 11 installation media or an ISO file. The update marks the first major change to Microsoft’s operating system since the introduction of Windows 10 in 2015. Rumors of a major Windows redesign have been in circulation for a year.
