What Participating Animal Adoption Centers Should Know – NBC Chicago
Too high a population capacity can often be a problem for animal shelters. The month-long Clear the Shelter virtual event is helping to alleviate some of that overcrowding.
From August 23, a furry friend can be adopted through the adoption event.
Given the ongoing pandemic, the usual one-day event will run through September 19, giving everyone, including adoptable pets, a better chance of having a bigger family.
Shelters can also set adoption days on-site based on their situation.
This year, due to the length of the virtual event, partner accommodations will not be asked to waive or reduce adoption fees. However, it is recommended that you waive fees at some point during the campaign.
Animal shelters are also provided with a free and easy fundraising opportunity hosted by Greater Good Charities, a nonprofit group that helps “People, Pets, and the Planet.”
Returning shelters will receive an auto-renewal email to continue participation this year, and new shelters can register here.
After registering, sign up for the free animal management software RescueGroups.org. This software helps WeRescue highlight available shelter animals for Clear the Shelters day. If you are using PetFinder you can also log in with your PetFinder ID and all of your pet information stored in PetFinder will be automatically transferred to WeRescue.
Those looking to adopt can find pets near them using the free WeRescue mobile app. The app has a custom CTA tab and filter that adopts can use to quickly find available animals at participating animal shelters.
As of 2015, more than 551,000 pets have found permanent homes at Clear the Shelters.
