City residents will now have free bikes in Chandigarh until September 12th under the public bike sharing scheme on Thursday. The public bike sharing project started Thursday last week, and since then, users have had numerous problems starting and stopping e-bike rides, opening the bike lock, and paying – a tedious task for people.

UT MC Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of Chandigarh Smart City KK Yadav also confirmed the development. “The company has been told that they will not have to charge anything for the trips until the system has stabilized. That’s until September 12th, ”said Yadav.

In addition, although the earlier declarations stated that the trip would cost 10 rupees, an amount of 11.80 rupees including GST will be charged.

Chandigarh Smart City officials said they have informed the smart bike company that there are technical issues in their software. Officials said the company was given a month from Aug. 12 to clear any teething problems, while the company has given assurances that it will fix the issues by Aug. 31.

Local resident and RTI activist RK Garg said, “I think the company has listened to the public and is valued by the people. Of course, people should be given fully charged cycles and the app should work fine. In addition, there should be a time for cycling from 4:30 am to 12 noon. “
Since August 12th, at least 11,845 registrations have been made in the bike sharing mobile app.

LAUNCHED LAST THURSDAY
UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore started the first phase of the public bike sharing project here last Thursday. It has been said that Chandigarh is the only city starting the project on a city-wide basis. The use of pedal-assisted hybrid e-bikes at the city docks has also been announced.

The electric bicycles are likely to be more user-friendly as they operate with a “pedal assist” system.
The bike system is fully automatic and is operated via the mobile SmartBike app. A rider can use the app to find the nearest bike station, unlock the bike, ride it and return the bike to any bike station. The equipment includes a network of docking stations, GPS-based tracking of bicycles, a central control system with a call center, workshop, user registration, online fare recording and advertising space. The project will be supervised by a company for 10 years.
