Teradek Serv 4K – Newsshooter

Teradek has announced Serv 4K, a successor to the original Serv Pro that was unveiled back in 2017. Serv 4K is a 4K HDR hardware/software production streaming solution that integrates cloud and local network platforms in a flexible and streamlined workflow.

The whole concept behind the Serv 4K is to simplify creative collaboration and real-time decision making for stakeholders on and off the set.

The Serv 4K extends the local streaming functionality of the original Serv Pro by adding the Teradek Cube’s cloud streaming tools to offer a 4K HDR hardware/software ecosystem that addresses the post-2020 production realities.

The Serv 4K has the following inputs and outputs:

  • 2 x USB 3.1 / USB 3.2 Gen 1 (USB Type-C) input/output
  • 1 x LAN (RJ45) input/output

Serv 4K offers higher bitrate encoding using H.264 or H.265 with 256-bit encryption and HDR throughput (DCI-P3, PQ2084), making 4K60p 10-bit 4:2:2 images safe can be streamed live. It can also be used to allow others to view material on set or via remote viewers. Set-up is designed to be straightforward for camera crews, as the workflow, device, web UI, and mobile app management have all been designed to create a user-friendly experience. Serv 4K also supports HEVC, so it’s able to deliver high-quality media in smaller file sizes.

Up to 20 devices can stream on a local network using Teradek’s Vuer app, with support for iOS, Android, PC, MacOS and AppleTV. Unlimited devices can access cloud-based live streaming and upload instant recordings to Teradek Core and 3rd party platforms like Frame.io. If the internet connection is lost, the recordings are saved to an SD card for secure upload once the connection is re-established. Streams and recordings are compatible with macOS, iOS, Android and web browsers.
