MIPI Alliance announces appointments of board members
PISCATAWAY, NJ–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The MIPI Alliancean international organization that develops interface specifications for mobile and mobile-influenced industries, today announced the appointment of Sanjiv Desai, Intel Corporation, as Chairman of the MIPI Alliance The board of directors. Desai, who had served as vice chairman since 2013, took over from longtime STMicroelectronics chairman Joel Huloux, who has announced his impending retirement. In conjunction with this transition, Board Member Rick Wietfeldt, Qualcomm Incorporated, has been appointed Vice Chairman.
The change in leadership took effect March 23, but Huloux will remain on the board pending the appointment of a new ST representative. In addition, Peter Lefkin has been promoted to Executive Director of MIPI Alliance and will continue to serve as Board Secretary. Synopsys Inc.’s Hezi Saar remains Board Treasurer, a role he has held since 2016.
Desai joined the MIPI Board in 2006, initially serving as Treasurer and then taking on the role of Vice Chairman in 2013. He has more than 30 years of industry experience in various architecture and engineering management positions in central processing unit (CPU) and chipset design and platform development. Desai is a senior director on Intel’s Client Computing Group architecture team, responsible for defining Intel’s next-generation client platform architectures. He also leads the strategy development of Intel’s standards for client platforms with a focus on wired interfaces.

Wietfeldt has been active at MIPI since it was founded and has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2018. He also currently serves as the co-chair of the MIPI Security Working Group and has served as the chair of the MIPI Technical Steering Group (TSG) since 2012. until 2018. He is a frequent speaker and author on technical topics for the MIPI Alliance. Wietfeldt received a MIPI Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014 for his significant contributions to various working groups and his leadership of TSG. He is currently Senior Director, Technology at Qualcomm.
Huloux has played a key role at MIPI since its inception days, serving on the Board of Directors since MIPI’s inception in 2003 and becoming Chairman in 2008. Under his leadership, MIPI has grown to more than 350 members and adopted more than 50 specifications that have been implemented in billions of devices worldwide, including every smartphone on the market today. During his tenure, the MIPI specifications have also been extended to several related industries, including IoT, automotive and industrial, while numerous industry contacts have further expanded MIPI’s reach. For his efforts, Huloux received a 2013 MIPI Lifetime Achievement Award.

Lefkin has provided leadership and guidance to the standards development community for more than 20 years. As COO/CFO of the IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization (IEEE-ISTO), he played a key role in the formation of the MIPI Alliance and became its executive director in 2011. As MIPI’s Senior Staff Executive, he is responsible for all MIPI activities and operations, from strategy development to execution.
