App for adding subtitles to real-time conversations goes live
An app that can convert speech to subtitles and translate different languages with the text displayed on smart glasses has been launched worldwide.
Now available on the Google Play Store, XRAI Glass uses artificial intelligence in conjunction with Nreal Smart Glasses to add closed captions to real-world conversations in real time, so those who wear glasses can help people with hearing loss.
The technology can also translate nine of the world’s most spoken languages - English, Mandarin, Japanese, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian and German – and display the text on small screens built into smart glasses connected to a smartphone.
XRAI Glass says the technology can also be used to retrieve conversations on demand, wearers can replay conversations that took place previously to review details.
The launch on Google Play follows a pilot for the software earlier this year.
Dan Scarfe, Founder and CEO of XRAI Glass, said, “We are very pleased to announce that XRAI Glass is now available globally.
“We believe this innovative technology can improve connections for millions of people with hearing loss around the world.
“We have worked closely with various partners including DeafKidz International and directly with deaf and hard of hearing individuals to test this product and we have listened and learned from all of them to create something truly life changing.
“We were excited to see how XRAI Glass can help more people than we initially thought possible, including people with neurodiversity that make it harder to understand speech and sound. The possibilities of who we can help with this technology are growing by the day.”
XRAI Glass technology is made available through a range of subscription tiers – including a free tier that gives users unlimited English transcription and the ability to save a day’s conversations.
The second tier, which costs £19.99 a month, offers unlimited transcription in nine languages, saves conversations for a month and identifies different speakers, while the ultimate Ultimate tier also offers unlimited transcription, all conversations saved forever and access to a personal one KI offers Assistant, for £49.99 a month.
Steve Crump, Founder and Chairman of DeafKidz said: “XRAI Glass software is an assistive technology that will make a real difference for deaf people and of course for deaf and hard of hearing children.
“I firmly believe that there will be a pre-XRAI and a post-XRAI timestamp that we can refer to for years to come. I can’t wait to see the impact it is having on children and their families around the world.”
