ABB introduces C-CAMs automation solution for merchant ships
ABB’s newly introduced automation solution C-CAMs is suitable for marine systems, energy management, cargo control and tank gauging and improves efficiency and safety by enabling faster troubleshooting and maintenance as well as increased situational awareness. It is the first ship automation solution with a mobile application overview of the system data, with the ABB Ability ⢠Edgenius Operations Data Manager providing access to the alarm and monitoring data regardless of the location of the user on board.
“C-CAMs are easily integrated into relevant marine systems and can be accessed and serviced remotely for easy maintenance and repair,” said Stian Torkildsen, global product line manager, Automation & Control Solutions, ABB Marine & Ports. “In addition, modern connectivity options and interfaces enable the crew to access data from the automation system throughout the ship via mobile devices, so that the solution benefits both the on-board personnel and the ship owner.”
The intuitive solution was developed based on ABB’s extensive know-how in automation. True to the ABB standards, the solution is cyber-secure due to its design and built on reliable and robust hardware, which enables a long service life for all components. High availability is also supported by the system redundancy, while the safety margins are higher than with comparable systems on the market.
Thanks to the I / O system design with spring clips, C-CAMs can be easily retrofitted and the installation costs are around 50 percent lower than with conventional ship automation systems.
“We are proud to build on ABB’s long history in power and automation and to expand our automation offering to include ocean-going vessels in the commercial marine fleet,” said Rune Braastad, Business Line Manager Marine Systems, ABB Marine & Ports. “The C-CAMs automation system offers great advantages for shipyards and shipowners, as it enables faster development, installation and commissioning compared to conventional automation systems, which ultimately leads to lower total operating costs.”
As part of ABB’s ongoing efforts to digitize the shipping industry through cutting-edge technology and unparalleled service, the C-CAMs are shipped with operator stations, I / O cards and CPUs with cabinets, network equipment, and an alarm and expansion system. Spare parts and technical support are available worldwide. Shipowners can also require the inclusion of ABB’s Power Energy Management System (PEMS â¢), which ensures the optimal use of all energy resources of a ship to promote safe, efficient and environmentally friendly operations.
